How to Text a Tip?

There are three parts to a text message tip:

1. The Short Code replaces a phone number. The Short Code assigned to Crime Stoppers is 274637 (CRIMES)
2. Key Words are used to ensure that the tip is directed to the proper Crime Stoppers program. Crime Stoppers of Niagara’s key word is: NIAGARA
3. The Message contains the word “NIAGARA” and then the actual text message.

   Example

A tipster sends their initial message. They text “NIAGARA” plus their tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).

Crime Stoppers then replies with a confirmation and provides the tipster a unique code number.

The tipster can respond back to Crime Stoppers of Niagara by simply replying to that message.

No key word or any other identifier is needed for any subsequent contact with Crime Stoppers from that cell phone. You need only text 274637 and you will be in touch with Crime Stoppers of Niagara.

A two-way dialogue is possible through our encrypted texting system, protecting the anonymity of the tipster.

Crime Stoppers will never know the identity of the tipster.
